The Academic Collaboration Between the Two Universities at the Research Level Began in 2004 and Has Been Thriving Ever Since

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the University of Cyprus and the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China, a renowned institution in aerospace technology, astronautics, and civil aviation sectors.

The MoU, which will be effective for a three-year period, was endorsed by the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tasos Christofidis, and on behalf of the Chinese university, by the Vice-President of the University Council, Professor Bin Jiang. Professor Jiang was accompanied by a six-member delegation composed of faculty and administrative staff from the university.

As per the newly inked agreement, both institutions aim to broaden their collaborative efforts in various areas. This includes initiating joint research activities, preparing and submitting research proposals for funding on mutually interesting topics, exchanging data and resources for research purposes, as well as facilitating the exchange of academic staff and students for teaching, research, and lectures. Additionally, the MoU will pave the way for the organization of joint conferences, seminars, and lectures in the realms of education and research.

During the signing ceremony, Professor Tasos Christofidis mentioned that the University of Cyprus had already cultivated ties with the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics through the "Koios" Center for Excellence in Research and Innovation. He emphasized that for the University of Cyprus to truly emerge as a global hub for education, research, and innovation, international collaborations are essential. He concluded by expressing confidence that this collaboration will bear fruit, leading to positive outcomes for both institutions.

Professor Bin Jiang noted that the academic collaboration between the two universities at the research level began in 2004 and has been thriving ever since. He expressed optimism that the new MoU will usher in novel avenues of collaboration, leveraging the exchange of knowledge and expertise on subjects of mutual interest.

Lastly, the Head of the Political Department of the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus, Zhang Ning, expressed satisfaction with the formalization of the partnership between the two academic institutions, stating it stands as another testament to the strengthening ties between Cyprus and China.
